Orchard Portman House Hospital.

Orchard Portman House is a mental health hospital near Taunton, Somerset, providing a range of specialist mental health services, with each degree of mental health having their own admission criteria and outcomes.
Our philosophy at Orchard Portman is to always do our very best for our patients and their loved ones, in so doing we have brought together a team of professionals that are passionate and committed to what they do, ensuring that we are up to date with current thinking, and explore ways in which to implement best practice.
Our aims and objectives are about caring together: We are committed to the care programme approach (CPA), a nationally recognised system that provides an organisational method to ensuring that our patients receive the necessary care and treatment; this involves having a person centred care plan, regular review meetings and contact with the patient’s Care Coordinator. We also recognise how important family can be to this process and their involvement is encouraged.

An overview of our hospital and services can be viewed in our 'CARING TOGETHER' brochure. We also have an 'INFORMATION FOR FAMILIES AND CARERS' brochure that explains our assessment processes.

Commitment: To our patients, families and our work force because each individual is centre to everything we do.
Achievement: Delivering a quality service that we are proud of.
Reputation: Is a key driving force and motivator to achieving the very best outcomes.
Ethical: Approaches to care and treatment are scrutinised through Clinical Governance.

The uniqueness of this enables service users to make gradual transitions with the same professional team to oversee under the same roof and with the minimum of disruption; transitions from one environment to another can often undo the delicate balance of wellness and mental health that can exist for individuals with highly complex needs.

We believe that training and development of our staff is key to providing a high quality service. Our staff are not only provided with a range of in house training, but are encouraged to develop additional skills and knowledge through attending bespoke courses and conferences as well as supporting an individual’s ambition to progress their career pathway.
