Orchard Portman House (The Pavilion Hospital) is at the start of a significant re-development project, which will take approximately 24 weeks to complete, this being the shortest viable time frame for such an extensive project.
The re-development has been extensively researched so as to provide a facility that will be ‘state of the art’ and be a fit for purpose environment for older people, while also meeting the needs of our employees.
We are committed to do our very best to limit any impact that the works may have upon our visitors, and we will ensure that you are able to enter and leave the building safely.
At the very start of the project, the current reception area will be unavailable, as that area forms part of the re-development project. The current portacabin will be resited to now become the reception area, and this will be manned 9am to 5pm 7 days a week. This is where you will sign in and out, there will be a seating area, and the receptionist will arrange for a staff member to collect you and take you to the area you are visiting.
If you intend to visit at any other time, I would kindly ask you to phone in first to make arrangements for you to be greeted by a staff member.
On the 6th and 7th January – a number of heavy vehicles will be coming to site, bringing in a field kitchen as well as building materials, so if possible this should be days to avoid un-necessary visits.
Our laundry (linen, towels etc) will be going to an external service, whilst personal clothing can still be done on site, we are temporarily re-siting a washing machine, and obtaining a couple of domestic dryers for this purpose.
The telephone extensions and broadband are being re-sited on the 8th January, so it is likely that there will be some short breaks in service during that day.
We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause you, but If you have any queries, or we can be of any assistance to you, then please do not hesitate to contact Linda Hallett – Hospital Director or Glenys Hanlon – Business Manager.
Introduction - Orchard Portman House, a mental health hospital near Taunton, Somerset, provides a range of specialist mental health and nursing services for older people within three distinct environments but all closely linked, each degree of mental health having their own admission criteria and outcomes. Service users can move between the units as part of their own care pathway.
- The uniqueness of this enables service users to make gradual transitions with the same professional team to oversee under the same roof and with the minimum of disruption; transitions from one environment to another can often undo the delicate balance of wellness and mental health that can exist for individuals with highly complex needs.
Location – Orchard Portman is situated in a beautiful rural location, however it is just 10 minutes’ drive from Junction 25 of the M5, and the national rail network is the main Paddington to Penzance line with frequent train stops at Taunton. We also have free, safe parking for our visitors when you arrive by car.
